Common name: plantago seed
Botanical family: Plantaginaceae
Botanical name: 1, Plantago asiatica L.; 2, P. depressa Wild.

Primary action: Drain Dampness, Promote Urination
Secondary actions: Drain Fire ; Clear Heat, Dry Dampness; Transform Hot Phlegm
Temperature: cold
Taste: sweet
Entering Channel: Kd, Lv, UB, Lu, SI

Actions:
   Promotes urination and clears Heat; used for all types of edema, depending upon with which herbs it is combined; used for Damp Heat Strangury, Damp Heat diarrhea.
   Clears the eyes; used for eye problems associated with Vacuity of Kidney and Liver or with Liver Fire, depending upon other herbs used.
   Clears Lung Heat and Stops cough with sputum.

Indications: inhibited urination, strangury, blood strangury, edema, diarrhea, cough, copious sputum, vaginal discharge, red eyes, blurry vision
